Telecom business revenue increased steadily. In the first three quarters, the total revenue of telecommunications business was RMB 1,022.8 billion, a year-on-year increase of 3.2%, and the growth rate was the same as the first half of the year. The total telecommunications business calculated at the constant price of the previous year was 10968 trillion yuan, an increase of 18.6% year-on-year.
Fixed asset investment continued to grow rapidly. In the first three quarters, the three basic telecommunications companies and China Tower Co., Ltd. completed a total of 291.3 billion yuan in fixed asset investment, a year-on-year increase of 16.5%, and the growth rate dropped by 4.6 percentage points from the first half of the year.
Fixed communications business revenue grew rapidly, while mobile communications business revenue decreased. In the first three quarters, the three basic telecommunications companies achieved revenue from fixed communications services of 349.4 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 11.5%, an increase of 2.1 percentage points from the same period last year, but a decrease of 0.5 percentage points from the first half of the year, accounting for 34.2. %; Revenue from mobile communications services was 673.4 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 0.6%, and the rate of decline narrowed 3.3 and 0.3 percentage points from the same period last year and the first half of this year respectively, accounting for 65.8% of telecom business revenue.
Data and Internet business revenue grew steadily, supporting steady growth in telecom business revenue. In the first three quarters, the three basic telecommunications companies completed fixed and mobile data and Internet business revenues of 172.8 billion yuan and 468.8 billion yuan, an increase of 7.5% and 2.7% year-on-year, accounting for 16.9% and 45.8% of telecommunications business revenue, respectively. A year-on-year increase of 0.6% and a decrease of 0.1% respectively, both of which drove the growth of telecommunications business revenue by 1.2%, and were the main pillar of the steady growth of telecommunications business revenue.
Fixed value-added and other income continued to grow rapidly, which strongly promoted the growth of telecom business income. The three basic telecommunications companies are actively developing emerging services such as IPTV, Internet data centers, big data, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence. In the first three quarters, they completed a total of 130.8 billion yuan in fixed value-added service revenues, a year-on-year increase of 23.1%, and accounted for 12.8%, driving a 2.5% increase in telecom business revenue.
2. Development of telecommunications users
The number of mobile phone users reached 1.6 billion, and the proportion of 4G users continued to increase slightly. As of the end of September, the total number of mobile phone users of the three basic telecommunications companies reached 1.6 billion, a year-on-year increase of 0.1%. Among them, the number of 4G users was 1.293 billion, a year-on-year increase of 2.3%, accounting for 80.8% of the total number of mobile phone users, an increase of 0.7 percentage points from the end of the previous year.
The scale of fixed broadband access users has grown steadily, and the number of gigabit fixed broadband access users has increased rapidly. As of the end of September, the total number of fixed Internet broadband access users of the three basic telecommunications companies reached 476 million, a year-on-year increase of 5.8% and a net increase of 26.82 million from the end of the previous year. Among them, there are 445 million optical fiber access (FTTH/O) users, accounting for 93.5% of the total number of fixed Internet broadband access users. Fixed Internet broadband access users with an access rate of 100Mbps and above reached 420 million, accounting for 88.2% of the total number of users, accounting for an increase of 2.8% from the end of the previous year; the promotion of gigabit broadband services was accelerated, and the access rate of 1000Mbps and above was fixed. The number of Internet broadband access users reached 4.25 million, a net increase of 3.38 million from the end of the previous year (870,000).
Cellular IoT terminal users and IPTV users have grown rapidly, and the penetration rate of mobile Internet users to mobile phone users has steadily increased. As of the end of September, the three basic telecommunications companies had developed mobile Internet users of 1.336 billion, with a penetration rate of 83.5% of mobile phone users, an increase of 1.3 percentage points from the end of the previous year. There were 1.073 billion cellular Internet of Things terminal users, an increase of 18.2% year-on-year, and a net increase of 44.92 million from the end of the previous year. Among them, terminal users used in smart manufacturing, smart transportation, and smart public utilities accounted for 19.6%, 19%, and 22.7%, respectively. The total number of IPTV (Internet TV) users reached 310 million, a year-on-year increase of 6%, and a net increase of 15.8 million from the end of the previous year.

Mobile Internet traffic has grown rapidly, and the DOU value has dropped in September. In the first three quarters, the cumulative mobile Internet traffic reached 118.4 billion GB, a year-on-year increase of 33.5%. Among them, the traffic through mobile Internet reached 112.7 billion GB, a year-on-year increase of 27.6%, accounting for 95.2% of the total mobile Internet traffic. In September, the average mobile Internet access traffic (DOU) per household reached 10.86GB/household, a year-on-year increase of 29.4%, 2.27GB/household higher than in December of the previous year, but 0.39GB/household lower than in August.
The decline in mobile phone call volume continued to narrow, and the growth rate of mobile SMS business revenue turned from negative to positive. In the first three quarters, outgoing calls on mobile phones completed 1.67 trillion minutes, a year-on-year decrease of 7.6%, and the rate of decline narrowed by 2.7 percentage points from the first half of the year; callers on fixed-line telephones completed 77.1 billion minutes, a year-on-year decrease of 15.9%, which was an even higher decline It narrowed by 3 percentage points in half a year. In the first three quarters, the national mobile SMS business volume increased by 19.1% year-on-year, and the growth rate dropped by 5.2 percentage points from the first half of the year; mobile SMS business revenue increased by 0.8% year-on-year, reversing the negative growth trend in the first eight months.

Broadband network construction is accelerated, and the proportion of optical fiber ports continues to increase. As of the end of September, the number of Internet broadband access ports nationwide reached 937 million, a year-on-year increase of 2.6% and a net increase of 21.04 million from the end of the previous year. Among them, fiber access (FTTH/O) ports reached 867 million, a net increase of 30.36 million over the end of the previous year, and their proportion increased from 91.3% at the end of the previous year to 92.5%. At the same time, the total number of various digital subscriber line (xDSL) ports fell to 6.893 million, a net decrease of 1.31 million from the end of the previous year.
The total length of optical cable lines has steadily increased. As of the end of September, the total length of optical cable lines nationwide reached 49.83 million kilometers, a year-on-year increase of 7.3%, and a net increase of 2.42 million kilometers from the end of the previous year. Among them, access network optical cables, local network relay optical cables and long-distance optical cable lines accounted for 62.1%, 35.7% and 2.2% respectively.
