On July 15, IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group (5G Promotion Group) announced that Huawei has taken the lead in realizing multi-vendor 5G interoperability testing based on commercial chips in China’s 5G enhanced technology R&D trials, exceeding hundreds of tests. All use cases are approved by the IMT-2020 (5G) propulsion group to help accelerate the 5G commercial upshift.

It is understood that the 5G interoperability test consists of two parts: indoor basic function/performance test and field performance test, which are respectively in the 2.6GHz and 3.5GHz independent networking (SA) and non-independent networking (NSA) architectures. The 5G key technologies such as physical layer basic functions, physical channels, link adaptation and scheduling, basic protocol functions of high-level protocols, multi-antenna technology, and multi-cell multi-user performance are fully verified.

According to the 5G propulsion group, the Huawei 5G system and the MediaTek Helio M70 have completed interoperability testing based on the F40 version. The test is based on the “5G technology R&D test system to verify the low-frequency terminal equipment test method – eMBB volume” and “5G technology R&D test system to verify the low frequency. The requirements for interoperability testing in the Outer Field Performance Test Method for Terminal Equipment are approved by the IMT-2020 (5G) propulsion group.

At this point, Huawei’s 5G system (including 5G core network and 5G new air base station) has completed interoperability testing with the world’s first 5G multi-mode chip solution supporting NSA/SA, Huawei Balong 5000, and MediaTek Helio M70, and is the first to realize 5G commercial.  The interconnection between the network and the terminal chip marks the further maturity of the 5G industry chain. In addition, Huawei 5G system and more terminal chip manufacturers interoperability testing is also underway, together with industry partners to promote industry maturity.

As early as March of this year, Huawei’s Balong 5000 chip has taken the lead in interoperability testing with multiple systems in the 5G enhanced technology R&D test organized by the 5G promotion group.

According to public information, Huawei has invested about US$4 billion in 5G R&D over the past decade, and has invested more than 10,000 R&D in 5G network. It is the only company in the industry that can provide 5G end-to-end products and solutions. According to the latest European standards organization statistics, Huawei has more than 2,570 5G core patents, accounting for more than 20% of the world’s total, ranking first in the world.

The issuance of China’s 5G license in June 2019 marked the beginning of 5G commercial use and announced that China officially entered the 5G commercial year. At the same time, global 5G entered the scale deployment phase in 2019. As of now, Huawei has acquired 50 5G commercial contracts and shipped more than 150,000 sites.
