After the issuance of 5G licenses, China Mobile said it will speed up the deployment of 5G networks, build the world’s largest 5G boutique network, and vigorously promote the “5G+” plan. In the end of September this year, it will provide 5G services in more than 40 cities, and customers will “do not change cards”. “Do not change the number” can open 5G services, and will continue to expand the scope of services, so that customers can use 5G services conveniently and quickly, and enjoy the benefits brought by 5G new technology.

For the first wave of 5G construction, China Mobile has successively placed three 5G big orders in recent days. The procurement scope includes core network, wireless engineering and terminals, which can be said to fully accelerate the deployment of 5G networks.

Core network

On June 6, 2019, China Mobile announced the “2019 NCN support 5G NSA function upgrade equipment centralized procurement single source procurement information announcement.”

This purchase is to upgrade the 450 sets of MME devices on the existing network to support dual connectivity, bearer migration, traffic reporting, and security. 681 sets of SAE-GW devices on the live network support traffic reporting and other functions, and the existing EPC core network SAE  – GW device compensates for traffic processing hardware.

From the perspective of this purchase share, Huawei is the biggest winner, followed by Ericsson, Nokia and ZTE.

This purchase also shows that China Mobile’s early deployment of 5G will choose NSA (non-independent networking).

The NSA networking, that is, the 5G NR is anchored to the 4G system, and continues to use the 4G core network, enabling the rapid introduction of 5G NR. However, after the introduction of 5G NR, the 4G core network can not remain intact. It also needs to introduce some new functions to flexibly provide 5G NR services, such as support for EPC dual connectivity, 5G NR connection decision function, support for 5G data traffic reporting, Optimize GW equipment, etc. with 5G capacity. Obviously, this “core network support 5G NSA function upgrade equipment collection” is to prepare for the 5G NSA network construction.

Wireless engineering design

The 5G base station construction project starts from survey and design. On June 10, 2019, China Mobile released China Mobile’s 519 Phase 5 Wireless Engineering Design and Feasibility Study Service Centralized Procurement_Tender Notice.

According to the announcement, China Mobile’s 519 Phase 5 Wireless Engineering Design and Feasibility Study Service estimates that the engineering fee one (design fee base) is 19.2578 billion yuan (excluding tax), and the project two (the feasibility study base) costs about 19.2578 billion yuan (excluding tax), the estimated survey fee (no discount) is 200.5 million yuan (excluding tax).

Terminal

No 5G terminal, no matter how good the 5G network is. On June 11, 2019, China Mobile released the “5G Terminal (Test Edition) Procurement Project Single Source Procurement Information Bulletin”.

The announcement shows that the collection will purchase 17,100 5G terminals, including 10100 5G mobile phones and 7000 5G CPE terminals, as follows:

After obtaining the 5G license, China Mobile is making every effort to accelerate the deployment of 5G networks. Once again, China Mobile has announced that it will provide 5G services in more than 40 cities by the end of September this year. Customers can open 5G services without changing the card and not changing the number. These cities include:

4 municipalities: Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Chongqing;

27 provincial capitals: Hefei, Fuzhou, Lanzhou, Guangzhou, Nanning, Guiyang, Haikou, Shijiazhuang, Zhengzhou, Harbin, Wuhan, Changsha, Changchun, Nanjing, Nanchang, Shenyang, Hohhot, Yinchuan, Xining, Jinan, Taiyuan, Xi’an, Chengdu , Lhasa, Urumqi, Kunming, Hangzhou;

5 cities with separate plans: Dalian, Qingdao, Ningbo, Xiamen, Shenzhen;

4 other cities: Xiong’an New District, Zhangjiakou, Suzhou, Wenzhou.
