According to foreign media reports, Huawei’s Canadian subsidiary announced three commitments in Toronto on May 7th, covering its product development, talent training and corporate social responsibility in Canada.

According to the report of Singapore’s Lianhe Zaobao website on May 8, local time on the afternoon of May 7, local time, Huawei Branch of Canada held a media day event to introduce its latest trends and technological breakthroughs. The company said it will bring 5G mobile network technology to Canada and support local economic development and service communities.

Huawei’s Canadian subsidiary announced three new commitments. Specifically, first, by 2020, information and communication technology training will be provided to more than 1,000 Canadians.  This new commitment will be implemented in accordance with the Huawei Authorized Learning Partner (HARP) program and other similar initiatives implemented across Canada.

Second, by the end of 2019, Huawei’s Canadian subsidiary will launch the first smartphone with 5G software in the Canadian market.

Third, donations of $100,000 for the Ottawa flood relief ($1 is about 6.8 yuan). Huawei employees in Ottawa can also choose to take paid vacations to volunteer for flood relief and cleanup.

Eric Lee, President of Huawei’s Canada branch, delivered a speech to the media and partners at the Huawei Canada headquarters attending the product launch.

He said that we will continue to invest in training in the Canadian market. Canada is the headquarters of Huawei 5G, and we are working hard to ensure that we are still at the forefront of 5G technology and development.

When talking about the upcoming smartphone, Kevin Lee, president of Huawei’s Canadian branch of Consumer Business Group, said: “In the fourth quarter of 2019, Huawei will launch a new smartphone to the Canadian market. The smartphone will be ready for 4G and 5G, making it the first 5G-capable mobile phone released by Huawei in Canada. As we enter the 5G era, you can expect us to release more of this in the coming months.”

Oliver Zatzalo, chief security officer of Huawei’s Canadian branch, said that network security is very important for Huawei. Huawei spends 5% of its research and development budget on network security every year. This is a vital corporate strategy that demonstrates Huawei’s commitment to expanding and refining a strong compliance system to ensure we comply with all applicable Canadian laws and regulations. We have been in Canada since 2008 and have been working with the Canadian government and airlines to implement a comprehensive security review program.
