At the opening ceremony, the Shanghai Municipal Government and China Unicom signed the “Framework Agreement for Deepening the 5G Network Construction and Innovative Application to Promote the Next Generation Information Infrastructure Construction Strategic Cooperation Framework”. According to the agreement, China Unicom will take advantage of the construction of a new generation of information infrastructure in Shanghai to enhance the energy level of urban fiber broadband networks and high-speed mobile communication networks, and promote the penetration of 5G networks and smart applications in various fields. By 2021, China Unicom will invest 15 billion yuan in Shanghai, increase the scale deployment and innovative application of 5G networks, and fully promote Shanghai to create a “double-gigabit broadband city”, and continuously enhance the international competitiveness and softness of information technology for Shanghai cities. At this summit, China Unicom also announced the first batch of 6 mobile phone terminals with 5G functions, 5 industrial terminals and 4 module products, including Huawei, ZTE, OPPO, vivo, Xiaomi, Nubia and other brands. At the meeting, China Unicom said it will build a “5G terminal innovation R&D center” with nine well-known manufacturers and brands to design and manufacture more innovative 5G terminals; and build a “5G friendly experience center” with channel partners.
